- Franz Porten was born on August 23, 1859 in Zeltingen, Bernkastel, Rhine Province, Prussia [now Zeltingen-Rachtig, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany]. He was a director and writer, known for Othello (1907), Der Trompeter von Säckingen (1918) and Theodor Körner (1912). He died on May 21, 1932 in Berlin, Germany.

- The director and film pioneer Franz Porten first made an education as an artistic ladler. But soon afterwards he took lessons as an opera singer and it followed numerous appearances on different stages both as a singer and actor. He went on tour through whole Germany in the next decades. Finally he came to Berlin where he entered the new media film.
- His last movies as a director came in the 10s into being, among them "Karl der Grosse" (1911), "Bubi, der Unverbesserliche" (1915) and "Tyrannenherrschaft" (1916).
