Biography

Stu Phelps was born on May 8, 1921 in Wisconsin, USA. He was a director and producer, known for Password (1961), What's This Song? (1964) and The Bill Gwinn Show (1951). He was married to Lenore Roberts. He died on February 8, 2006 in Palm Desert, California, USA.

Began his career as a director editing films for the Army while serving during World War II. After his Army stint, he became the first full-time production employee of Channel 2, Los Angeles, which became KNXT and then KCBS. As director of sports and special events, he produced and directed the first commercial Rose Bowl game ever televised.

After joining ABC, he directed the first coast-to-coast show to originate from the West Coast. He was producer and director of numerous news and event shows including the Bing Crosby Pebble Beach Golf Tournament, the Rose Parade, NFL games and the opening day of Disneyland. He was also at the helm of Frank Sinatra's televised world concert tour.

Worked as a television director throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
