Michael Petted, born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, is an award-winning actor, director, writer, producer, and musician. His on-screen work includes FX’s Emmy-winning American Horror Story (opposite Jessica Lange), FOX’s New Girl, the indie feature Mayor Cupcake (with Lea Thompson, Judd Nelson, and Zoey Deutch), and the independent films Spade (opposite Jorge Garcia) and A Good Thing (with Tom Bower and Anne Gee Byrd). He recurred on NBC’s The Late Late Show opposite Thomas Lennon and appeared in the festival favorite Beautiful Dead Things, now streaming on Amazon Prime. His directorial short Artie and Alice has screened at festivals worldwide.
On stage, he has appeared in Eric Bogosian’s Suburbia, Sam Shepard’s True West, John Patrick Shanley’s Italian American Reconciliation, and Robert Bolt’s A Man for All Seasons (directed by Howard Deutch), earning a Los Angeles Ovation Award nomination for Best Actor for Lone Star opposite Don Swayze, produced by Patrick Swayze and Doris Roberts. He also starred in the Ovation-nominated A Gift from Heaven opposite Beth Grant.
Petted has worked with many high-profile directors, including George Clooney, Gene Reynolds, and Howard Deutch. A professional percussionist and singer-songwriter, he has performed with artists such as Slash and Bob Dylan, and continues to release original music on all music platforms.
Trained in the Milton Katselas lineage, Petted is also a respected acting coach and the founder of his own acting studio in Los Angeles, where he teaches scene study and on-camera technique to actors from around the world.
