Second husband, Frederic "Fritz" Stammberger, a famed mountain climber, disappeared in 1975 while solo climbing on Tirich Mir in Pakistan. He was declared legally dead in 1984.

In 1988, Janice was knocked off-stage by a camera during a taping of The Price Is Right (1972) and rendered unconscious.

Sustained injury on the set of the Price is Right in 1988, after a cameraman swung his camera in the wrong direction during the opening sequence. The camera struck Janice, knocking her off the stage and into the audience area, leaving her unconscious in front of horrified audience members. She was badly injured and was immediately rushed to the hospital for surgery. A year later, she sued the show for negligence was awarded $1.3 million for the accident.
