In 2009, J.J. Paulsen pleaded guilty to "voluntary manslaughter and moving a body from the scene of death", in the death of his wife, Leanne Serrano-Paulsen. He also pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent in the abandonment of his 16-month-old son. He was sentenced in Indiana to 26 years in prison.
