- Tayva is from Winslow, Arizona, near Meteor Crater. Her mother's name was Ada but everyone in her family had always called her Tade. Her older sister came up with the name Tayva from a combination of Tade and Ada. While attending Brigham Young University she received the Outstanding Character Actress Award in 1992 and the Outstanding Film Actress Award in 1993 and 1995. She lives in Provo, Utah with her husband Brian. They have four children and ten grandchildren.

Until then, her work had been in stage productions, and live theater is still what she enjoys the most. She has maintained her career entirely from her home in Utah; continuing to be involved in projects that don't require a move out of state. Declining health in recent years has limited her ability to work.
