She started as a model, and in 1955 became an actress. She acted under her birth name, Marjorie Marie Hellen, until 1959. Afterward, she legally changed her name to Leslie Maria Parrish. She appeared in more than 100 TV shows. She was one of the first women producers. She had a passion for music. A staunch Democrat, she was involved in such political issues as ending the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as decades of statewide (California) and presidential political campaigns.
She met the airplane pilot/writer Richard D. Bach during the making of Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1973), and they married in 1981. They divorced in 1999.
