Helen Parker - Managing Director and Executive Vice President, Universal Pictures Content Group, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group

Based in London, Helen Parker is responsible for spearheading the Universal Pictures Content Group on a worldwide basis. Managing teams in London, L.A. and Tokyo, she oversees the acquisition, production, marketing and distribution of content working with leading global talent across a wide range of entertainment categories, from documentary, family, theatre to live events, anime and Asian drama for the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.

Under Parker’s stewardship, Universal Pictures Content Group offers a complementary slate to the Studio and Focus Features and has been connecting talent and content with audiences in meaningful and innovative ways for more than 30 years. During this time, the business has continuously evolved reflecting audiences’ varied tastes and consumption habits to retain its market-leading reputation as an entrepreneurial and agile studio delivering innovative and tailored strategies and maximizing the global reach of NBCUniversal.

Universal Pictures Content Group’s litany of credits includes the BAFTA-nominated and biggest documentary of 2022, Moonage Daydream (directed by Academy Award®-nominated Brett Morgen), the Emmy-nominated Tina (directed by Academy Award® winners Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin). the BAFTA-nominated, Emmy-winning Apollo 11 (directed by Todd Douglas Miller), the critically-acclaimed The Blackening (directed by Tim Story), Ti West’s extraordinary psychological horror, Pearl, commercial and critical smash hit Asian drama - Scarlet Heart and the Top 3 all-time, record-breaking live event cinema performances - Billy Elliot The Musical Live, Miss Saigon: 25th Anniversary performance and Les Misérables: The Staged Concert. More recently, UPCG has delivered a number of high-impact theatrical events that demonstrated the power of fan-first cinema including Stray Kids: The dominATE Experience (the first K-Pop movie ever to reach #1 at global box office ), EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert (the biggest feature-length documentary IMAX opening of all time), Six the Musical Live and Charli XCX mockumentary The Moment.

Before leading Universal Pictures Content Group, Parker was the Joint Managing Director of Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd where she was responsible for managing all aspects of the UK company with a particular focus on Special Interest content. Prior to joining the company, she held several positions within the Home Entertainment business starting as PA, rising to Head of Press and Publicity and the A&R Director at Virgin Vision and finally holding the position as Joint Managing Director of Vision Video Limited where with visionary foresight, Parker almost single-handedly pioneered the creation of an entirely new, incremental category of business outside of Film within Home Entertainment - ‘Special Interest’. From stand-up comedy to musicals and fitness, Helen introduced diverse genres that resonated with audiences, ultimately generating hundreds of millions of pounds in retail value for the UK home entertainment industry. During this time, her ability to identify emerging talent and build trusting relationships played a crucial role in her recognising household names such as Lee Evans, Ricky Gervais, Peter Kay and Michael Flatley at the onset of their careers.
