Giorgos Pappas(1903-1958)

Georgios Pappas was a Greek dramatic actor known for his distinguished contribution to modern Greek theatre. Coming from a literary and artistic family, he initially studied agronomy in Montpellier before returning to Greece, where he briefly worked in the diplomatic service before turning to acting in the early 1930s. He made his stage debut with the troupe of Mitsos Myrat and soon established himself in leading roles with major Greek theatre companies, including those of Marika Kotopouli and Kyveli, as well as at the National Theatre of Greece. Throughout his career, he performed in a wide range of classical and contemporary works, earning recognition for his powerful stage presence and versatility. During the Second World War, he continued active theatrical work as a leading figure in Greek stage productions. After the war, he collaborated with prominent actors and companies of the period and also worked as an acting teacher at the drama school of the National Theatre. In addition to performing, he translated and occasionally directed theatrical works, contributing to the development of Greek theatrical culture. He was awarded the Legion of Honour medal for his contribution to French theatre.
