Mania Papadimitriou

Mania Papadimitriou is a distinguished Greek actress, director, and academic whose career has bridged the worlds of classical theater and contemporary politics. Raised in Athens, she pursued a rigorous dual education, studying in the Archaeology Department of the University of Athens while simultaneously training at the Drama School of the Karolos Koun Art Theatre. Her professional stage debut occurred in 1983, beginning a long-standing collaboration with major theatrical organizations including the National Theatre and the State Theatre of Northern Greece. Known for her versatility, she has portrayed leading roles in works ranging from Shakespeare and Brecht to ancient Greek tragedy at Epidaurus. Her breakthrough on screen came with the series Fota parakalo (1988), which established her as a prominent figure in Greek television and film. In 2001, she achieved a significant critical milestone, winning the Best Actress award at the Greek Film Awards for her performance in Tha to metanioseis (2002). Her theatrical prowess was later recognized with the prestigious Marika Kotopouli Award in 2005 for her role in The Milk (To Gala). Beyond performing, she began directing in 2001 and has taught acting at the Karolos Koun Art Theatre for over two decades. In addition to her artistic output, she has been an active voice in Greek public life, serving as a member of the Hellenic Parliament with the SYRIZA party.
