She was an actress and director, known for Thillana Mohanambal (1968), Kaajal (1965) and Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai (1960). She was married to Dr. K. T. Ramachandran. She died on September 24, 2006 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

  • Her only son Prem (Premanand) Ramachandran was born in 1962. He works with Warner Brothers. He is married to Indira Nair.
  • Along with her elder sister Lalitha and her younger sister actress Ragini, they were all exceptionally skilled classical dancers and film actresses, and together they were branded as the "Travancore Sisters".
  • After marriage she stopped acting and settled for family life in New Jersey, where in 1977 she started the Padmini School of Fine Arts. It is now considered as one of the oldest and largest Indian dancing school in the US.
  • Born in Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram, she was the second daughter of Thankappan Pillai, a landlord and Saraswathi Amma, a pious housewife.
