- Marc Okrand is known for Star Trek Beyond (2016), Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991).
- Marc works as a linguist for the National Captioning Institute. He creates the Closed Captions the Deaf use to read the dialog on television programs. In the course of this employment, one of the languages he has become fluent in is American Sign Language.
- Received his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in linguistics from the University of California, Santa Cruz (1970). Received his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley (1977).
- From 1975-1978, Marc taught undergraduate linguistics courses at the University of California, Santa Barbara before receiving a post-doctoral fellowship at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. (1978).
- Best known as the creator of the Klingon language for the Star Trek motion picture series. Author of three books about Klingon: The Klingon Dictionary (1985, 1992), The Klingon War: A Warrior's Guide (1996), and Klingon for the Galactic Traveler (1997).
