During the West Side Story shooting of the sequence for the number "Cool" in a parking garage in Los Angeles, Oakes stepped on a nail when she came down on the floor. This was the hardest number to shoot not only because the heat was excessive in the garage, but because the dancers had to fall and kneel down onto concrete. Several dancers sustained injuries in this scene and throughout filming.
