- Through the tabloids, she learned in December 1937 that husband Lefty Gomez was filing for divorce in Mexico. A Catholic, June agreed to a formal separation. Lefty told reporters that the idea of divorce was absurd, but then moved to Reno. Separation proceedings dragged on for months, then were called off in May 1938. They remained together until his death.
