Biography

Vijaya Nirmala was born on February 20, 1944 in Tamilnadu, British India. She was an actress and director, known for Kurukshetramu (1977), Bhookailas (1958) and Panduranga Mahatyam (1957). She was married to Krishna and Krishna Murthy. She died on June 27, 2019 in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

Actor V.K. Naresh is her son from her first marriage. She has no children from her second marriage to actor Krishna.

Used name Nirmala until 1965 when she started using Vijaya Nirmala in tribute to Vijaya movie studio which gave her first starring role.

Is the aunt of actresses Jayasudha and Subhashini.

In 2002, she made the Guinness Book of Records when they named her the most prolific female director, having directed 42 feature films since 1972.
