Biography

Hanneke Niens is a Dutch Oscar nominated film and dramaseries producer and CEO of company KeyFilm. In the nineties she worked as line producer and Head of Drama for different companies on television drama series, producing more then 300 drama episodes. She has been active as a film and series producer since 1999, producing and co-producing numerous feature films, telemovies, dramaseries and documentaries. From accessible art house to mainstream films for the national and international market, with a focus on intelligent, character-driven stories. She is a strong believer in cinema as a result of team work, starting with the triangle producer-writer-director. Hanneke was co-founder and producer of IDTV Film from 1999-2008. In 2008 she established film company KeyFilm, followed by daughter company KeyDocs. She has an extensive international network of co-producers, funds, sales agents and financiers.

She has produced award winning films and festival hitters as thriller Godforsaken (competition San Sebastian 2003), epic drama Twin Sisters (Oscar nomination Best International Film 2004), remake Unfinished Sky (competition TIFF 2007), documentary This is my picture when I was dead (competition IDFA 2010), drama Silent City (competition San Sebastian 2012), romantic comedies Soof in 2013, Soof 2 in 2016 & Soof 3 in 2022 (EUR 19.000.000 Box office in The Netherlands), coming of age drama Nena (Generation Plus Jury Award Berlinale 2015), Beyond Sleep (opening film IFFR 2016), The Reports on Sarah and Saleem (Tiger Award Best Scenario and HBF Audience Award 2018), Huda's Salon (official selection TIFF 2021), and Queens (closing film Venice Critics Week 2022). Her films were awarded with a.o. an Oscar nomination, an Emmy Award, three times a Prix Europe, shortlisted for the EFA and won numerous Dutch Film Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay.

Hanneke was guest tutor of the Netherlands Film and Television Academy and EAVE. She is member of the European producers association EPC, the Netherlands producers association NAPA were she was board member from 2004-2010, and was part of the supervisory board of International Film Festival Rotterdam from 2019-2025.
