Biography

Karin Neuhäuser is a German actress. She was raised in humble circumstances in Renningen, near Stuttgart, after her family, originally from the Sudetenland, relocated to Baden-Württemberg. Her father passed away when she was young, and her mother raised the family alone. Following her passion for the dramatic arts, she pursued her education at the acting school in Bochum.

Neuhäuser began to build her distinguished career with long-term engagements at some of Germany's most respected theaters. She was a vital member of the ensemble at the Schlosstheater Moers and the Wuppertaler Bühnen before joining the Schauspielhaus Bochum. Her powerful stage presence and versatility led her to the Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim and the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin. From 2009 to 2022, she was a celebrated member of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, further cementing her reputation as a formidable stage actress. In addition to acting, she has also directed theater productions at Schauspiel Frankfurt and Staatstheater Kassel.

Her transition to the screen began with the television series Rote Erde (1983). She has since appeared in numerous film and television productions, delivering compelling performances in projects such as the crime series Tatort (2009-2024), Fatih Akin's critically acclaimed film In the Fade (2017), and Terrence Malick's historical drama A Hidden Life (2019), where she portrayed Rosalia Jägerstätter. Her television credits also include the series Der Elefant - Mord verjährt nie (2002-2006) and Die Familienanwältin (2006-2007).

For her exceptional contributions to theater, Neuhäuser has received numerous accolades. She is a multiple recipient of Germany's prestigious "Der Faust" theater prize. Her other honors include the Gordana Kosanovic Award and the Theaterpreis of the Verband Deutscher Kritiker.
