Sam Nestico was born on 6 February 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He was a composer, known for Little Children (2006), The Color Purple (1985) and The Wrecking Crew! (2008). He was married to Shirley Frazier and Marge. He died on 17 January 2021 in the USA.

Jazz trombonist and arranger. The son of Italian immigrants (his father was a railroad worker). Noted for his work with military bands before joining the Count Basie Orchestra.

Director and arranger of the U.S. Marine Band, where he served under presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.

Held an honorary Doctor of Music degree and the Distinguished Alumni award from Duquesne University.
