- He was scheduled for the lead in Villain (1971) which was due to be a B picture but Elizabeth Taylor was in London filming and Richard Burton wanted a film so it was given to him and made into an A feature.

- Nesbitt has related that, during the filming of Where Eagles Dare (1968), director Brian G. Hutton asked him to watch out for Richard Burton's drinking, because it was causing the film to run behind schedule. As Nesbitt was on a day rate, his motivation was to do just the opposite, and so encouraged Burton to join him for "a quick one" whenever possible.
