She has been nominated for and won more Academy Awards for make-up than any other woman. With three awards, she is tied with Greg Cannom for second most wins by any gender, behind only Rick Baker, who has won eight times. As well as this, she has been nominated eight times, behind only Cannom with nine nominations, and Baker with eleven.

Frequently works with director Tim Burton. She was a make-up artist on Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992), Ed Wood (1994), Mars Attacks! (1996) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), all of which were directed by Burton. She won Oscars for her work on Beetlejuice (1988) and Ed Wood (1994).

Has worked with Johnny Depp a total of seven times: she was a make-up artist on Edward Scissorhands (1990), Ed Wood (1994), Blow (2001), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). On the last of these films, she was Depp's personal make-up artist and hair stylist.
