Heddle Nash(1894-1961)

Leading British tenor. Made his debut in Milan, Italy in 1924, and was
still singing thirty-five years later. Thought by some to be Britain's
finest-ever tenor. His singing had an appealing simplicity and natural
sincerity: his effortless, light timbre is unmistakeable. He sang
largely in Great Britain. As well as a busy concert and broadcasting
career, he sang most of the leading operatic tenor roles, appearing
with the British National Opera Company, at the Glyndebourne Opera,
with the Carl Rosa Opera Company, the Sadler's Wells Opera, and at the
Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He made many recordings, including a
number of complete roles: his Gerontius in Elgar's THE DREAM OF
GERONTIUS, and his Ferrando in Mozart's COSI FAN TUTTE are especially
notable.
