- D.R. Nanayakkara was born on March 15, 1915 in Kolonnawa, Colombo District, Ceylan [now Sri Lanka]. He was an actor, known for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Seedevi (1951) and Amma (1949). He died on January 4, 1989.
- He was diagnosed with HIV in 1988.
- He was married to Adeline Perera whom he met while performing the play.
- Nanayakkara had one of his most celebrated performances in Rekawa (1956), which is considered a landmark in film.
