Trivia
One of the world's great conductors, he became conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra upon Serge Koussevitzky's retirement in 1949, and led that orchestra until his own retirement in 1962. However, as Conductor Emeritus, he continued to conduct the orchestra on television. Under his leadership, the Boston Symphony Orchestra made its first stereo recordings. Munch is widely considered to be the twentieth-century's greatest conductor of the music of Hector Berlioz.
