Rita Myrat was a distinguished figure of the Greek stage and cinema, whose career spanned four decades of significant artistic contribution. Growing up in Athens, she pursued her passion for the performing arts by studying at the Drama Schools of the National Theatre of Greece and the Hellenic Conservatory. Her theatrical journey began in 1932 on the Main Stage of the National Theatre in the production While the Ship Travels, directed by Fotos Politis. This debut marked the start of a long-standing association with the National Theatre, where she appeared in over fifty productions alongside legendary actors such as Manos Katrakis. Her stage work covered a vast repertoire, establishing her as a reliable and respected presence in classical and contemporary drama. In cinema, her debut occurred in 1930 with the film The Song of the Flute (1930), followed by Blue Candles (1930) in the same year. After a lengthy hiatus from the screen, she made a notable return in 1956, portraying the title role in The Duchess of Plakendia (1956), directed by Maria Plyta. This performance remains one of her most recognizable film credits. Her final cinematic appearances included roles in The Shoe-Shine Boy (1962) and The Big Secret (1963). Beyond her professional life, she was a member of a prominent artistic family through her marriage to architect Alexandros Myrat, the eldest son of the renowned actors Kyveli and Mitsos Myrat. Together they had a daughter, Kyveli Myrat. Her legacy is defined by her enduring dedication to the National Theatre and her contributions to the foundational years of Greek sound cinema.
