Biography

Oliver 'Tuku' Mtukudzi was born on September 22, 1952 in Harare, Zimbabwe. He was an actor and composer, known for Zimbabwe - Respect for Africa (1994), My Lady (2014) and Neria 21 (2024). He died on January 23, 2019 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Musician and composer who was to release soon his 67th album; he is the father of Selmor Mtukudzi and Sam Mtukudzi (1 April 1988-15 March 2010 car crash).

He had a string of hits that made him known across Africa and eventually to an international audience. He sang, played guitar, and danced while leading a band of guitarists, keyboardists, percussionists, and dancers in his catchy songs. He had several successful international tours. He wrote songs in a style that was a mix of Zimbabwean and South African rhythms that became known as "Tuku music.".
