- Maeve Murphy is an award winning independent film maker, writer-director. Humanist in basis her films do not shy away from political or controversial stories, sometimes regarding women. She is most known for Silent Grace starring Orla Brady, her feature regarding the largely untold story of the women on the 1980 Dirty Protest and Hunger Strike, that got practically written out of history and was in The Irish Times 2020 Top 50 Irish Films Ever Made and selected to represent the UK at Cannes in 2002. It was nominated also for the Conflict and Resolution Award at The Hamptons USA. Her second feature Beyond the Fire starring Cara Seymour ran into censorship issues over the subject matter with RTE and received an instant broadcast on TV3 in Ireland. It covered the still ground breaking topic of love in the wake of rape. One of the characters had been abused by a priest. Sushi her short film won the Subti- International short film Award at Venice Days, Venice Film Festival. Maeve's third feature was Taking Stock, a comedy starring Kelly Brook and Georgia Groome, which was released theatrically in the UK by Swipe Films and bought by Netflix where it was front page "popular on Netflix". Her recent short film St Pancras Sunrise screened IFTUK March festival at the ICA 2024. It won Best International Short Film at the Silicon Beach Film Festival in LA and is also a proof of concept for a feature. Maeve wrote, directed and produced and Fiona Kinsella and Jim Sheridan were executive producers for Tile Media.
