Julian Moss

I was born in the south of England, but my earliest recollections are not those of plastic toys, grassy parks, and rainy days, but of searing heat, sandy beaches, and a military coupe. My family moved to Ghana when I was just two years old. During our three-year stay, President Nkrumah became unpopular. Tensions reached such a fevered pitch that our house was once peppered with bullet holes.



Still, there were many fond memories of that time, our experiences captured with my dad’s 8mm cine film. Undoubtedly, it was this colorful early life that launched my interest in film-making.



Back in England, I weathered various educational establishments such as King’s Head Lane, Dane Court, Kingsmead, and Calday Grange Grammar School. These led me to Walsall, the heart of the black country near Birmingham, where I gained my BA degree in Visual Communications.



I left Walsall with a degree but no direction, then London called and I answered. Here, I took up acting. I started out doing commercial work, promoting Frosties (the Yank's Frosted Flakes), Tesco, and Lamot Lager. As my career grew, I appeared in such television series as Paradise Club, Allo, Allo, and Casualty, as well as films, including Bullseye and Helpline.



Like London, Hollywood called. Since I arrived I have written a dozen feature screenplays, made three successful short films as a writer/director, produced two feature films, including Fortress, and served as line producer for B-unit shots on the Mario Van Peebles film Red Sky.



Writing novels seemed a natural progression from screenplays, allowing me to put flesh on the bones of a story. Whether it is film-making or novel writing, storytelling is truly my passion.
