- After graduating from the Saint-Cyr Special Military School in 1956, he then graduated from the École supérieure d'Électricité (Supélec), eight years later, in 1964 and from the École d'état-major.
- Commander of United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1993.
- Was accused of allowing for the Srebrenica massacre to happen. In September 2010, Morillon was denied access to Srebrenica Genocide Memorial because of this.
