Biography

Erna Morena was born on April 24, 1885 in Wörth am Main, Bavaria, Germany. She was an actress and writer, known for Das Tagebuch einer Verlorenen (1918), Colomba (1918) and Lulu (1917). She was married to Wilhelm Herzog. She died on July 20, 1962 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.

Exotic, brunette star of German silent cinema. Following studies in art history and metalwork, she began training at the acting academy of the Deutsche Theater in Berlin and was subsequently engaged by Max Reinhardt's company. In films from 1913, five years later setting up her own short-lived production company, the Erna Morena Film GmbH. By the mid-20's, she was regarded as one of the biggest stars in German films, making her best films under the direction of Richard Oswald ("Tagebuch einer Verlorenen"), Murnau ("Der Gang in die Nacht") and Joe May ("Das indische Grabmahl", as Savitri). Her career declined sharply after the advent of sound, though she was still regularly seen in supporting roles during the 30's.

The actress Erna Morena was born as Erna Fuchs and had her most successful time during the silent movie era of the 20's. But her film works can be backdated till 1913 where she made her film debut in "Die Sphinx".

She was able to continue her career in the sound film era and normally played support roles.

In the 20's she worked together with directors like Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau.
