His father, Gilbert was involved in an horrific car accident involving a truck when Shannon was just 12 years old. The doctors said that his condition was so bad that he had only a matter of hours to live, but when he survived for 48 hours, the doctors decided to perform brain surgery to remove clots but told the Moore family it was 99% likely that he would not survive - he did, although he was in a coma for two years. When he woke, the only way he could communicate was to blink, squeeze your hand or on good days, speak a few small words. In October 2003, Gilbert was admitted into hospital, and let home for his final days. Unfortunatly, he passed away on October 10th 2003 - twelve years after doctors said he would.
