Biography

She continued to perform and, in 1990, at the invitation of Japanese-Brazilian singer Lisa Ono, she toured Japan with Johnny Alf , performing in theaters in Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo.

In 1956, she was elected Queen of Radio, in a contest by the Associação Brasileira do Rádio in which candidates sold votes in order to raise funds for the construction of a hospital for broadcasters.

In her early days, she also worked at Copacabana Palace , one of the most luxurious stages of the time, singing in English and French. The experiment only lasted six months. The passage through Copacabana was however memorable, because the public was curious to see a 16-year-old girl, with braids, and her mother, always at her side, in possession of a permit so that her daughter could sing, because the latter was under the minimum legal age to perform in public.

In 1969 her hit Changing the conversation (Maurício Tapajós/Hermínio Bello de Carvalho) spent about five months on the charts.

During her childhood, the emphasis was on education. She also learned to speak French with her mother, who had lived in Lyon for nine years.
