Julio Monge(I)

Julio Monge is an actor and director, whose role in the critically acclaimed production of John J. Caswell Jr's Wet Brain, earned him a Lucille Lortel Award nomination. Broadway credits include Jerome Robbins' Broadway, Fosse, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Paul Simon's The Capeman, and Lincoln Center's Twelfth Night. He recently played Compay Segundo in the acclaimed Broadway musical Buena Vista Social Club. His numerous Off-Broadway credits include Tiresias in Luis Alfaro's Oedipus El Rey, and Friar Lawrence in the Public Theater's bilingual audio-drama Romeo y Julieta, starring Lupita Nyong'o. Monge directed the US premiere of Baipás, a play by Puerto Rican filmmaker and writer Jacobo Morales. He served as artistic collaborator and consultant in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story (2021). Monge was honored with the Performing Arts Lifetime Achievement Award, conferred by the Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee in 2017.
