Joseph A. Mitchell was born on May 22, 1866 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He was a writer, known for Sherlock Jr. (1924), The Navigator (1924) and Our Hospitality (1923). He died on April 21, 1950 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

At the time of his death he suffered from chronic myocarditis and Azheimer's.

Buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Los Angeles.
