- Ray Middleton was born on February 8, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was an actor, known for 1776 (1972), Lady from Louisiana (1941) and Mercy Island (1941). He was married to Patricia A. Dinnell and Florence A Sombrotko. He died on April 10, 1984 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

- Was the first actor to don the costume of Superman for a personal appearance at the World's Fair in 1939

- Nephew of Metropolitan Opera baritone Arthur Middleton (1880-1929), who was also his first voice teacher.

Featured in George White's Scandals (1939). Originated the part of Frank Butler opposite Ethel Merman in "Annie Get Your Gun" on Broadway in 1946.
- He was a bit of a practical joker. In his screen test for 1776 (1972) he brought a snub nose .38 caliber revolver with him, and produced it at the end, saying that he had a better way to take care of the problem of George Read, his colleague in the Delaware delegation. Of course there were no revolvers at the time of the Continental Congress.
