Biography

Leonard Melfi was born on February 21, 1932 in Binghamton, New York, USA. He was a writer and actor, known for Birdbath (2013), Oh! Calcutta! (1972) and Lady Liberty (1971). He died on October 28, 2001 in New York City, New York, USA.

Melfi's body was lost after his death at Mount Sinai Hospital and found in a potter's field grave four months later.

Author of 40 plays, including the one-act play "Birdbath", 1965, he was considered one of the star playwrights of Off Off Broadway world of New York City in the 1960s. The anticlimatic, all-but-forgotten end of his life was described in a NY Times story, April 17, 2002.
