Patricia C. McKissack was born on 9 August 1944 in Smyrna, Tennessee, USA. She was a writer, known for Dear America: A Picture of Freedom (1999) and Dear America: Color Me Dark (2000). She was married to Fredrick McKissack. She died on 7 April 2017 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

She wrote more than 100 children&#39;s books which were based on African American history and folklore. Her husband Fredrick did the research and she did the writing.
