Biography

Ruth McKenney was born on November 18, 1911 in Mishawaka, Indiana, USA. She was a writer, known for Margie (1946), Song of Surrender (1949) and San Diego I Love You (1944). She was married to Richard Bransten. She died on July 25, 1972 in New York City, New York, USA.

Her sister was Eileen McKenney, on whom the My Sister Eileen book, movies and television series were based, and which served as the basis for the Broadway musical Wonderful Town, was killed in an automobile accident in El Centro, California as Eileen and husband Nathanael West were returning from a hunting trip on December 22, 1940. They had been married less than six months, and it was before the movies and musical were conceived.
