Biography

Michael McGuire was born on June 30, 1930 in the USA. He was an actor, known for Hard Times (1975), Dark Shadows (1966) and A More Perfect Union: America Becomes a Nation (1989). He died on December 15, 2017 in Burbank, California, USA.

Best known for his role on Cheers as Sumner Sloan, whose character sets the entire series in motion on the pilot episode, ditching Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) at the bar. He returned for two more episodes later on.

Currently playing Beverley Weston in the Broadway production of August: Osage County

McGuire was originally cast as Bill Mulderig, the Federal Narcotics Agent, who was the nemesis of NY detective Popeye Doyle. At the last minute, McGuire was replaced by actor/stuntman Bill Hickman.

Attended Beloit College and the University of Wisconsin.
