He was an actor, known for The Parallax View (1974), Three Days of the Condor (1975) and Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years (1977). He was married to Robyn Goodman. He died on March 31, 1977 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

- Ironically, and tragically, given that Walter McGinn died in an automobile accident, the last feature film he appeared in, Bobby Deerfield, is about a race car driver trying to figure out how a fellow driver died in a race car crash. McGinn plays Al Pacino's brother and shares an intense scene in the film's beginning. He died ten months before the film was released.
