Nigel McCrery was born on October 30, 1953 in Essex, England, UK. He was a writer and producer, known for New Tricks (2003), Backup (1995) and Silent Witness (1996). He was married to Gillian Copson. He died on February 6, 2025 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England, UK.

He was a police officer with the murder squad in Nottingham before he began his career in television. He joined the BBC in a graduate entry program and soon moved into the drama department.
