Biography

John McCormack was born on June 14, 1884 in Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland. He was an actor, known for Song o' My Heart (1930), Miller's Crossing (1990) and War Horse (2011). He was married to Lily Foley. He died on September 16, 1945 in Booterstown, County Dublin, Ireland.

Pictured on a 20¢ US commemorative postage stamp issued in his honor, 6 June 1984.

Considered by many to be Ireland's greatest tenor.
