Biography

Based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, Nick McCallum has extensive experience designing Feature Films, Television Drama Series and Theatre Productions across Australia and throughout the world; working in China, Poland, Great Britain, France, Japan, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea, Spain, Switzerland, and Germany. He has been involved in over 50 productions.

To date Nick has designed three action-adventure 3D Feature Films - James Cameron's SANCTUM starring Richard Roxburgh and Ioan Gruffudd; GUARDIANS OF THE TOMB starring Li Bing Bing, Kellan Lutz and Kelsey Grammar and BAIT starring Xavier Samuel, Sharni Vincent, Phoebe Tonkin and Julian McMahon.

SANCTUM, produced by James Cameron (TITANIC, AVATAR), is set entirely in a flooding cave environment built in the studios on the Gold Coast, Queensland. GUARDIANS OF THE TOMB is set in an underground Chinese Palace temple complex totally infested with deadly funnel web spiders. BAIT has a tsunami hitting the east coast of Australia and trapping a pack of man-eating tiger sharks in a flooded supermarket complex.

TELEVISION Production Designs include UPRIGHT 2 starring Tim Minchin and Milly Alcock, TROPPO starring Thomas Jane, REEF BREAK for ABC/Disney starring Poppy Mongomery, ANSWERED BY FIRE starring David Wenham, Bryce Courtenay's THE POTATO FACTORY, starring Ben Cross and Lisa McCune and the successful SPELLBINDER series, starring Ryan Kwanten and Heather Mitchell; shot throughout Poland and China.

Theatre design credits include Australia's Entertainment Centre tour of GREASE, THE ARENA SPECTACULAR with John Farnham, Craig McLachlan, Natalie Bassingthwaighte & Magda Szubanski.

Nick's Theatre acting credits with the Chichester Festival Theatre company include CYRANO DE BERGERAC starring Keith Michell and Christopher Cazanove and directed by Jose Ferrer, Ibsen's ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE with Donald Sinden and directed by Patrick Garland MADE IN HEAVEN starring Patrick Macnee and Michael Bates and OTHELLO starring Topol and Keith Michell.

Nick has twice been nominated for Australia's top film award, the AFI AWARD for Best Production Design for a Feature Film - IN A SAVAGE LAND & GETTIN' SQUARE and twice nominated for Inside Film IF Award for Best Production Design for a Feature Film - KOKODA & THE BLACK BALLOON.
