Biography

She is the daughter of Googie Withers and John McCallum and the older sister of Nicholas McCallum.

She made her first screen appearance as a baby in the arms of her real-life parents, John McCallum and Googie Withers, in the Bath studio scenes of The Magic Box (1951).

Her second child was due in June 1987.

She was chosen by Sir Alec Guinness to play Portia in the 1984 Chichester Festival Theatre production of The Merchant of Venice, in which he starred as Shylock. She replaced Eileen Atkins, who had been originally sought, but Guinness considered her to be too old for the role.
