- An acting coach and director for over 25 years, Derrel has taught at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, also for Estelle Harman (head of talent/development at Universal Studios), Tracy Roberts (co-founder of the west coast Actor's Studio) and many top theatrical agencies in LA. He has directed theatre programs at the Sanai Akiba Academy, the VBS Day School and Heschel Middle School. He also runs Derrel Maury's Young Actor's Workshop and was highlighted on CNN in a special report on acting classes for kids.
Derrel Maury joined SAG/AFTRA in 1967. He was so young his first roles were "crawl-on's". He was a series regular on Norman Lear's Apple Pie (1978) starring Dabney Coleman & Rue McClanahan, dated both Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli on One Day at a Time (1975), was a series regular in Gary Marshal's Joanie Loves Chachi (1982) starring Scott Baio and Erin Moran, was Jughead in James Komack's Archie (1976) and starred in the 70's cult classic film Massacre at Central High (1976) to name just a few.
Derrel appeared in the TV film/pilot I Met a Producer and Moved to L.A. (2011), the cable show Cook Her Pants Off (2011), films The Tramp (2010) and Wasteland (2011), and won the Best Actor honors at the New York Short Film Festival (2007) for his work in Wither (2007).
A native of LA, Derrel grew up in a theatrical family. His father was a professor of theatre arts at UCLA and his mother a stage actress. Derrel's first starring role on stage was at the age of 10 playing The Artful Dodger in "Oliver". At 12 he starred in "A Thousand Clowns" with John Rubinstein. His adult roles include R.P. McMurphy in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", The Devil in "Damn Yankees", Lt. Greenwald in "The Cain Mutiny", Jake in "Jake's Women", and Cole Porter in "Red Hot & Cole" winning the West Valley Theatre Award for Best Actor in a Musical. But sharing the stage with his mother and father in a production of "The Subject Was Roses" directed by George Schaefer has been his most rewarding stage experience.

- As a youth appeared in a Kellogg's Corn Flakes commercial as well as several others.
