Margarete Matzenauer(1881-1963)

Margaret Matzenauer was a mezzo-soprano who sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York between 1911-1930. She had an opulent timbre and wide range. She performed key works from both the Italian and German operatic repertoires in Europe and the United States. She was also an accomplished pianist who learned new and difficult music very quickly. After leaving the Met in 1930, Matzenauer moved to Los Angeles and devoted herself more and more to teaching.
