Biography

Ana María Matute was born on July 26, 1926 in Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. She was a writer, known for Pecado de omisión (1974), El polizón del Ulises (1987) and Novela (1963). She was married to Ramón Eugenio de Goicoechea and Julio Brocard. She died on June 25, 2014 in Barcelona, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.

Winner of the Cervantes prize.

She is considered one of Spain's best post-Civil War writers, and her work often centers on that conflict. Her most popular novels have been translated into 23 languages. She is also known for her children's books and young adult novels.

During the Franco regime, much of her work was censored, and she was blacklisted from writing for newspapers and magazines.
