He died in 2012, leaving behind Grace, their children and four grandchildren.
  • Her Filipina mother was Trinidad "Trina" Escoda Gardner Matthews, who was a prisoner of the Japanese during World War II and later married James Matthews, Jr., a United States of America Army photographer.
