Her father was a singer in musicals, though she never got to know him. Valerie started as a radiologist taking X-Rays, but gave it up and went to the Royal College of Music. She later became a member if the English National Opera. She has a son, Jason born 1971 and a daughter, Caroline, born 1975.
She acted in Noel Coward's musical, "Bitter Sweet," at the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London, England with Ann Mackay, Rosemary Ashe, Gordon Sandison, and Alec Bregonzi in the cast. Ian Judge was director.
