Biography

Francesco Massaro was born on August 23, 1935 in Padua, Veneto, Italy. He was a director and assistant director, known for The Leopard (1963), Tomorrow I'm Getting Married (1984) and Il generale dorme in piedi (1972). He died on July 20, 2026 in Rome, Lazio, Italy.

Massaro started his career as assistant director of Luchino Visconti's The Leopard.

He made his debut as a director in 1972, with the commedia all'italiana (= Italian-style comedy) "Il generale dorme in piedi".

Francesco Massaro was an Italian director and screenwriter active in film and television.

In the 1960s, he began to collaborate with eminent directors such as Pietro Germi, Dino Risi and Lucio Fulci.

In the panorama of Italian cinema of the second half of the twentieth century, he was considered a director of solid craftsmanship, particularly versed in comedy, but also active successfully in other television genres, including medical dramas and thrillers.
