Frans Masereel was born on 31 July 1889 in Blankenberge, Flanders, Belgium. He was a writer, known for The Idea (1932), Ten huize van (1957) and Frans Masereel - Ik hou van zwart en wit (1969). He was married to Laure Malclès and Pauline Imhoff. He died on 3 January 1972 in Avignon, Vaucluse, France.
